Moonbeam has announced an XCM integration with Darwinia, which will allow connected contracts on Moonbeam to communicate via Darwinia’s Universal Cross-Chain Messaging Network, once remote EVM calls through XCM are enabled. This will connect any contract in Moonbeam to any network outside of the Polkadot ecosystem, like Ethereum, Avalanche, and others, once Darwinia’s Light-Client Based Cross-Chain Messaging protocol and XCM are combined.
Polkadot’s architecture allows parachains to natively interoperate, enabling cross-blockchain interactions and transfers of any type of data or asset. XCM (cross-consensus messaging) provides a shared communication standard between all parachains. This means that, messages can be passed, natively, between the different layer one parachains build on Polkadot’s layer one blockchain. Polkadot has 25 parachains, while Kusama has 57 parachains, so far, connected to Kusama’s rely chain, the goal is to be build 100 parachains on each rely chain.
Darwinia is a generalized light-client based message delivery network and Polkadot parachain that provides a highly-secure and programmable bridging framework between Polkadot and EVM chains like, Ethereum, Polygon, BSC, and others. Darwinia also provides an SDK (software development kit) to simplify the development process. This collaboration will bring Darwinia Universal Cross-Chain Message SDK for use in developing cross-chain asset bridges, and cross-chain access to assets for use as collateral on a remote blockchain and will allow, asset exchanges across chains with a single transaction in the future.
